Why a link works better than a card for most gatherings
A paper invitation is lovely to receive and hard to answer. The reply arrives by text, by email, in person, or not at all, and the host ends up keeping the guest list in their head. A digital invitation puts the answer next to the question: the guest reads the plan and replies in the same place, and the reply lands in the list the host is already looking at.
It also keeps up with the plan. When the time moves by an hour, the invitation shows the new time to everyone who opens it — nobody is working from an old screenshot.
Personal invitations, an open link, or paper
Each way of inviting suits a different group of people, and most gatherings use more than one:
- Personal invitations go to people you have an email address for. Their reply is tied to their name, and they hear about changes.
- An open link is one link for the group chat, the team channel or the class list. Anyone who has it can reply; turn on approval if you want to see each person before they are in.
- A printed card is for the people you reach on paper — grandparents, neighbours, a class where you have names but no addresses. Each card carries that person's name and their own code, so a scan answers for them, not for "someone with the link".
Getting replies without chasing
The chase starts when nobody can see who has answered. With every reply in one list, the host checks it once, a few days before the reply-by date, and sends one reminder to the people who have not answered — instead of asking the whole group chat again.
Keep the invitation itself short: the date, the place, what to bring if anything, and whether a +1 is welcome. Anything longer belongs in the event details, where people look when they need it.

Do guests need an app or an account to reply?
No. Guests open the link in any browser and reply there. Only the host uses the app.

Can some guests get a paper invitation instead?
Yes. Samla prints one card per guest, each with that person's name and their own code. They scan it with their phone camera, and their reply lands in the same list as everyone else's.
What if the plan changes after I've sent it?
Edit the event. Guests who joined with their email are notified about the change, and anyone using the open link sees it the next time they open it.
